Dates: June 16 – 20 & September
Element-Active will be offering two trips to the Alpi Apuane – one in June and the other in early September 2019.
Ruth, who speaks fluent Italian, will guide these 3-day carefully researched walks. She has found places to stay that are off the normal tourist trail and it’s a fascinating, unusual insight into a beautiful area.
Sunday June 16th to Thursday June 20th
The June trip will meet at Pisa airport at 11 am on Sunday June 16th
There is a Bristol Easyjet flight that ties in with this.
Flight: Easyjet Bristol to Pisa
Outward: Departs: 07.20/Arrives: 10.40
Return: Departs: 18.05/Arrives: 19.25
You are responsible for booking your own flights.
If you would like to come at different dates or from another airport, that’s fine.
The meeting of the group will be 11am on Sunday June 16th in Pisa airport.
Perhaps you’d like to go beforehand or stay after and see something of the beautiful cities such as Lucca and Florence in the area – we’ve already got someone keen to do the Lucca ParkRun on the Saturday!
It’s a stunning area and teaming a good walk in the hills with some sightseeing is a great combination.
Ruth is very happy to discuss by email (Ruth@element-active.co.uk) or phone (07507 189904) any queries, alternatives and possibilities.
Flight details for September 2019 are not yet available.
I will schedule the same trip at the end of August/ first week of September but will wait for flight details to firm the dates up. All details will be the same – If you are interested in the trip at this time, please email me and let me know so that I can get you on the list.
If you would like a bespoke trip with your own group, please get in touch.
There are also ‘easier’ option routes with approximately 5 hours walking per day.
Ruth will be there to meet you in ‘Arrivals’ with your transport.
You will then have the 1-hour drive to Levigliani and The Hotel Raffaello – a small charming family run hotel in the village.
It gives you the afternoon to do what you’d like – options include a 2hr trip with an Italian English-speaking guide round the famous caves ‘Antro del Corchia’ in Levigliani – one of the biggest cave systems in Europe. Or – have a shortish walk from Levigliani to Terrinca. These are ancient villages perched up high and surrounded by woodland – very tight, utterly delightful and typical of the area.
Timings include stops and are approximate.
Day 1: 8 hours. We climb the Pania Della Croce (1858m) on this day – there’s some steep descending and incredible views.
Day 2: 6.5 hours – a stunning day on paths winding underneath rock slabs
Day 3: 7 hours – some lovely ridges and interesting contouring.
Day 4: A swim in the sea and/or coffee in Forti dei Marmi celeb spotting and designer window-shopping. Or a trip round Pisa.
Flight (if returning on the Bristol option) at 18.00
This is not a walk for beginners and a level of fitness is needed. There’s a lot of up and down – it’s scenic and stunning but as you’d expect in the hills, it is up and down!
The paths are good and we don’t consider them dangerous but you need to be sure-footed.
If you have walked Scafell Pike or in Tryfan in North Wales that is the kind of terrain. No ropes are needed, in places the path can feel a little exposed, in a few places there are chains or a rope in place. Occasionally you need to scramble a bit but it’s not exposed. The views are spectacular.
You will need to carry a smallish rucksack with daily food, water and your change of clothing.
€570 per person
Includes: 4 nights accommodation in double/twin rooms

Simple packed lunch on each day
