Spring was so late arriving this year but we managed to get a Bespoke Weekend and a course on Maintaining Your Runner’s Body between the two March maxi and mini ‘Beasts from the East’. Then the spring exploded with everything arriving at once: bluebells and bracken, hawthorn and hazel.
Our Bespoke Weekends are taking off and we’ve done two this year so far – one for runners on approaches to fitness and the other for walkers based on the beautiful Glanusk estate. Planning and preparing a weekend away often takes way too much time – so, get your group of like-minded friends and we’ll evolve you a weekend to suit your interests and your budget. Drop me an email if you’re interested. As ever, detail and quality with good food (and cake!) is fundamentally important to us as is appreciation and valuing of our outdoor world.
What’s Coming Up
The Beginning Fell Running Courses have been super-popular. I’ve even been nominated for Fitness Entrepreneur of the Year for this course! Those of you who have been on it will know, it’s not all about simply fitness but also about how we approach new things mentally. We’ve got another couple of these coming up: July 29th and September 23rd so do spread the word if you know anyone who’d enjoy this. It’s an excellent inclusive day with much to take away whether you’re aiming to race or simply get out in the hills more.
Increasing your confidence with a map means that it’s easier to plan adventures and get out independently – we’ve got two days on Maps in August (11th & 12th) where we cover Beginning and Progressing. Do one or either or both. I’m very lucky to have Kirk running the Progressors – there’s not a lot he doesn’t know and he has the calm measured patience of a saint!
Maintaining Your Runner’s Body was a new day course for 2018. It was really good for me to work alongside other specialists in their area and wow we crammed a lot into the day. Simply taking time out to review how you are approaching and balancing your fitness and running both physically and mentally is vital. The next one is on November 11th
Element’s Black Mountains Trail Race is returning on October 21st. We sold out last year and it’s just a great event and possibly one of the most beautiful trail races in the UK. There’ll also be free tea and cake this year – after all, isn’t that why we run?!
Element is looking forward to working with the Women’s Adventure Expo (WAEXPO) in Bristol on October 6th & 7th. I was so impressed last year with the range, quality, breadth and depth of talks and activities on offer – highly recommended and all super-inspiring and we’re delighted to be involved this year.
Next year something I’m working towards with Emma Pugh, Director of Living Deliberately, is a course for women exploring concepts of confidence in much more depth. We will use the outdoors but the focus of the course will be on personal growth. If you’d be interested in the course or anyone you know or work with might be, let us know and I’ll send out further and fuller details to you later in the year.
Italy will become part of our repertoire next year – I’m currently creating a 3-day trip in the Apuan Alps close to Pisa. Initially it will be for bespoke groups but if enough people express an interest I’m happy to put together a group. Again – let me know if you’re interested and I will mail you once I have further details.
There’ll be a new race in 2019 – one thing I know after years of racing is what makes a good race and I love organising them – even if I might not actually feel that in the week leading up to the race! There’ll be something for everyone and the aim is fun, inclusivity and a touch of challenge!
