Description: You understand the basics of an Ordnance Survey map but perhaps you’re a bit rusty. You’d like to feel more fully confident with using a map as well as planning and visualising a route and using a compass when needed. This is a day where, between indoor and outdoor sessions, we place you more pro-actively in the ‘driving seat’ of map work.
We hope that by the end of the day you’ll feel confident to use a compass, understand grid references as well as being able to plan and visualise what a route might involve more fully.
Kirk Painting will tutor the course. Kirk is very highly qualified: a Mountain Leader with a military background, he is very experienced and is used to working with adults having taught map skills on a number of levels. Ruth will be working alongside Kirk to facilitate and support this day.
Please bring a compass similar to the Suunto one pictured on this page or the Silva Expedition 4 type.
[We recommend Likeys in Brecon if you need to buy any kit – great supporters of Element and a ‘proper’ independent outdoor shop they will give you a 10% discount if you mention Element.]
We will supply the maps o the day.
You will receive further details about the day after booking.
