A glorious 3-day weekend for mums and daughters to share a structured creative and active programme in and around nature. A perfect school summer holiday short break where we do the planning for you. A chance for you to have some time-out together, connect with yourselves and others. Lots of fun, laughter and lots of engagement and learning. Expect activities as diverse as trying Tai Chi, learning the basics of sports massage, a fun orienteering exercise, a creative photo challenge. Forest craft and observation, mountain walks and wild ponies.
Who is the weekend for? This is a tutored 3-days aimed at any mums and daughters who’d like to enjoy the outdoors and nature, explore and are interested in learning. We envisage that mature girls of 14+ will be best placed for what we are offering and in order to keep the group dynamic balanced, we’d like you to come with one daughter! We create space around the edges for you to socialise and connect with each other and have some ‘down time’. You do not need to be a ‘fitness bunny’ at all to come on this weekend but you need to enjoy spending time outdoors and being active and have an open mind about trying new things.
Where: We will be based at Llwyn Celyn, a wonderful historic 15th-century house recently restored by the Landmark Trust and sited at the southern end of the spectacular Llanthony Valley. We will use Llwyn Celyn’s light and airy beautifully restored Threshing Barn for some activities and we will be using the hills close to our venue for some activities. There are two kitchens and a lovely outdoor sitting and eating area.
The postcode of the venue is NP7 7NE.
Content: Arrive Thursday evening and we kick off on Friday at 9am and end on Sunday between 4.30pm and 5pm.
This course is all about trying new things, enjoyment, positive challenge and sharing via feedback. All our tutors on this weekend have been excellent Secondary School teachers at some point in their careers – and some still are – and are fully qualified in their areas of expertise. The days will be well structured with a blend of activities as diverse as trying and understanding Tai Chi, learning the basics of sports massage, a fun orienteering exercise, a creative photo challenge and an artistic engagement with landscape. There’ll also be forest craft and natural observation and mountain walks.
Lunch is included and provided for you on all 3 days. You will be responsible for breakfasts and evening meals.
There is a maximum number of 16 places on the weekend.
Accommodation: You can choose where you would like to stay. Llwyn Celyn, our venue, has a basic bunkhouse, which can sleep 6 people. Over the years, we have built up a directory of trusted accommodation in the area, from yurts and shepherd’s huts to farmhouse B&Bs, to top-end luxury hotels, catering for all budgets. We’ll send you the list upon booking. There are campsites and the possibility of parking a campervan (see below).
The Bunkhouse is nicely done, modern, communal accommodation with the use of kitchen, showers and your own single bed – you’ll need to bring bedding and pillow. The bunkhouse is available from Thursday night at £25 p/p/p night. Please email Ruth@element-active.co.uk if you would like to reserve places – first come, first served!
Campervan: Campervan parking can be arranged at Llwyn Celyn, and you’ll be able to use the kitchen, showers and toilet facilities. We ask for a £10 a van per night for this. Again, please let Ruth know if this is what you would like to do.
Camping: There is a very simple, pretty and convenient campsite just across the road from Llwyn Celyn by a river – facilities are simple, but you could use the Llwyn Celyn facilities easily. The site is run by two old farmers who once used to occupy Llwyn Celyn before the Landmark Trust built them a new house – so there’s no website – but let Ruth know if you’d like a booking here.
There is a well-run campsite 4-miles up the road next to Llanthony Abbey https://www.llanthonycamping.co.uk
Covid: In this new and changing landscape that we find ourselves in, we would like to reassure you that our weekend will be Covid secure in line with the guidance we receive. If we cannot go ahead, you will always be offered a rescheduled date or a full refund – and the choice is yours.
Cancellation policy: If you cancel your bookings on the course, we will refund you (minus a £50 administration fee) if you cancel two months prior to the event. Anything after that date is non-refundable. However, we will happily accept a replacement if you find others to take your places and we might have a wait list for the weekend.
