Description: You’d like to get out and into some wilder country but feel that you don’t have the map skills or full confidence to stride out alone. You’d like to become more at ease with planning a walk and using an Ordnance Survey map.
This is a great day walk for you.
There will be the chance to have a map and be guided to follow our progress at various intervals when we are out walking all day in beautiful mountain country.
You will get a personal colour, laminated copy of the map area where we are walking and we will be stopping occasionally to check out features along the route.
This isn’t a day where we are ‘teaching’ navigation skills and spending all day with our ‘heads in the map’ and grappling with a compass – but it is a day where you get the chance to understand where we are and to be talked through features so you begin to understand and feel more confident with maps.
And – if you don’t want to do ‘the map bit’ of this lovely walk … that’s fine too – just come along and walk.
We will be walking a couple of mountains as part of the route. The walking is not technically rough and if you have a basic level of walking fitness you will be able to undertake the day.
Ruth will be walking with you all day – she’s an experienced mountain leader and her walks assistant Sarah will also be with you all day.
We will walk at a steady pace with plenty of stops.
It’s summer and a beautiful time of year and we have all day and will aim to make the most of this.
This isn’t a mountain marathon and we will be enjoying the walk, nature and the landscape too.
We will be starting our day at:
The Dragon’s Head, Llangenny near Crickhowell (NP8 1HD)
Meet at 9.30 am with time for a coffee and a chat.
We will be out walking by 10.15 am.
And, we finish at the pub!
The Dragon’s Head is a lovely country pub – traditional, unspoilt and tucked away on the edge of the Black Mountains – they also do good food so there will be the chance to stay on for food and drink at the end of the walk if you would like to.
Llangenny is easily reached from Bristol and Cardiff – it’s very close to Crickhowell.
The maximum group size is 15.
You will receive further details on booking.
