Enjoy nature and the outdoors in the stunning Black Mountains landscape, develop focus and curiosity and balance your body. This weekend has three very different kinds of walks in the fells in the Brecon Beacon’s Black Mountains, one of the most stunning locations in the UK. We know the area intimately and our weekends touch into local interest in a way that you’d never stumble upon. We couple all this with a yoga class at the end of each day in the beautiful venue of the Landmark Trust’s Threshing Barn. No previous yoga experience is necessary.
The walks are creatively lead exploring the ecology, history and the atmosphere of the Black Mountains. We split into smaller groups at times with engaging leaders so that we can walk and talk more fluidly. There will be two 5-mile walks on Saturday and one longer 9 mile walk on Sunday.
The weekend begins on Saturday at 9am and end on Sunday between 4.30pm and 5pm.
Our yoga sessions are a ‘feet-on-the-ground’ approach to the discipline working with the active body on the complementary aspect of the physical and the mental elements of yoga.
Yoga Equipment: You will need to bring a yoga mat. Please also bring a belt and two bricks if you have them. We can order you a yoga mat if you don’t have one (£25) and can loan bricks and belts.
Who is the weekend for? This is a tutored weekend aimed at any active, open-minded women who are keen to explore and connect who would like to find some space to do so. It is for women who are interested in learning, who enjoy the outdoors, who are interested in nature and who are keen to connect with environment, others and yourselves.
Can I come on my own? Yes – absolutely. There will be other people who have booked solo and we’ve had some really nice friendships sparking during the weekend. It’s sometimes hard to book on your own but you’ll have a very warm inclusive welcome on this weekend if you do.
Where: We will be based at Llwyn Celyn, a wonderful historic 15th-century house recently restored by the Landmark Trust in the spectacular Llanthony Valley. We will use Llwyn Celyn’s light and airy beautifully restored barn for yoga and we will be using the hills close to our venue for our walks.
The postcode of the venue is NP7 7NE – we will send full information and further details to you after booking
Accommodation: Because accommodation and how you like to sleep and your budget are such personal matters, we find it works better for people to choose where they would like to stay. We give you this choice – there’s a simple (but tastefully done) small bunkhouse at the venue and we will send you our accommodation list on booking. Over the years, we have built up a directory of trusted accommodation in the area, from yurts to shepherd’s huts, from farmhouse B&Bs to top-end luxury hotels, catering for all budgets.
Bunkhouse: Llwyn Celyn, our venue, has a bunkhouse, which can sleep 6 people comfortably. It’s nicely done, modern, communal accommodation with the use of a well-equipped kitchen, showers and your own single bed – you’ll need to bring bedding and pillow. The bunkhouse is available Friday and Saturday night at £25 a night. Please email Ruth@element-active.co.uk if you would like to a place – if 6 people have already booked I’m afraid it’s full.
Campervan: The parking of a campervan can be arranged at Llwyn Celyn – you’ll be able to use the kitchen, showers and toilet facilities – we ask for a £10.00 a night if you’re doing this. Again, please let Ruth know if this is what you’re doing.
Camping: There is a good campsite 4-miles up the road – details are on our accommodation list.
Saturday Evening: No one gets left alone on Saturday evening (unless they want that!). Some people book with friends and book to eat out on Saturday. For others and people coming on their own we help gather groups and make a local pub reservation or if you’d prefer to form a group and cook at the venue we advise where to shop.
A list of restaurants with details will be sent out with the accommodation when booking.
Covid: In this new and changing landscape that we find ourselves in, we would like to reassure you that our weekend will be Covid secure in line with the guidance we receive. If we cannot go ahead, you will always be offered a rescheduled date or a full refund – and the choice is yours.
If you have to drop out from the weekend course, we will refund you (minus a £50 administration fee) if you cancel two months prior to the event. Anything after that date is non-refundable. However, we will happily accept a replacement if you find someone else to take your place and we might have a wait list for the weekend.
We are a small company and we run courses, employ tutors and book venues on a minimum number being reached.
