Description:
If you like the idea of being able to run in the mountains but have never started then this will be the perfect day for you.
We are two highly experienced top women fell runners who are passionate about getting more women to enjoy this sport. Both of us have competed internationally and have been involved with fell running for many years and just love being out in the hills. We will facilitate a well-structured, confidence-building day introducing you to fell running.
Fell running is exhilarating: leave your world-worries behind, be out in nature, have a view, feel the elements and be away from the traffic. We think when you’ve tried it that you won’t want to go back to the tarmac! We help you find your confidence – build on your strengths and not let any weaknesses dominate.
This is a day where you work at your chosen level and we get you to find your ‘off road’ feet.
The day
We will start at 9.30am, as we take you through the various elements of fell running in a well-planned day. There will be practical outdoor sessions as well as indoor seminars.
There’s the chance to deal with your insecurities and help you to work on your perceived weaknesses as well as giving you some enthusiastic ‘can-do’ attitude.
Covering technique, mental approach, fitness and confidence, there will also be a chance to look at kit and touch on strength and conditioning as well as how to find out about the type of races you could try.
All ages are welcome as are all abilities. And rest assured, this is not a day about speed, discomfort or running straight up a mountain as soon as you arrive! You work at your chosen pace and it is not a competitive day.
Your ability
We imagine that you will have done some running and that you are able to jog 5k continuously as a minimum. The speed doesn’t matter. This is not a day for elite athletes.
You’ll be given a checklist of what to bring when Ruth writes out to you with further info closer to the date, but no specialist running gear is needed for the day – if you have trainers with a grippy sole that’s good enough.
Drinks will be provided – you will need to bring lunch and other snacks.
Please ask if you’d like some pointers on accommodation as we have some good suggestions.
